One Year Ago...

This little guy joined our family!

Here's a 12 month reminder of how much he has changed since that day:

Can't believe we have a toddler already!
Josiah had his one year check-up, and he weighs 30 pounds, and measures 32 inches long. His feet are size six, and he is wearing a lot of 24 months/2 T clothing now. He is officially walking now too, although he still looks wobbly and falls frequently. It's pretty cute to watch. I'll try to post a video soon. He is talking up a blue streak, and starting to say a couple of two-word phrases. And he is still very busy and curious, as you can see!
We are officially back from vacation. Our trip was great in many ways. I have lots of pictures and stories that I will share (as soon as I am unpacked!).

Just a quick post to let you all know that I probably won't be posting much in the next couple of weeks. Chris starts vacation tomorrow, and we have lots of plans!

Here are a few updates before I go:
Josiah is climbing like mad...nothing is safe. He gets up on all of our furniture now, and has had several tumbles in the last few weeks. He is very proud to be sitting on grown-up furniture! I, on the other hand, am pretty close to turning all of the living room furniture around backwards so he can't get up. If you come to visit, and are asked to sit on the floor,
it'll all make sense to you now!

My cousin Julie came up last weekend for a visit. Josiah LOVES her! We had so much fun. I think he got a little spoiled from all of the attention, because he was kind of cranky when she left!

While we visited, Chris went camping for the weekend. It rained, but he was happy to have some quiet time to himself. Literally to himself. Apparently the campground was pretty vacant because of the rain warning. Good news though- the new tent held up wonderfully,
and didn't leak at all!

In walking news, Josiah now takes five or six steps at a time to get from one location to another. He still prefers crawling, and hasn't started running yet (as predicted by several, due to his overabundance of energy!!). I think it seems like he walks when he forgets he is even doing it, but when he plans it, he psychs himself out!

We went to NS last weekend to visit family. Josiah got to meet some family members for the first time. I don't have pictures...I wasn't there! My mom took him for the day so Chris and I could have a much needed break! He also enjoyed riding in the wagon at his Grammy's house (pictures to follow at a later date- I am too lazy to download them right now!).

It feels like a busy month. I am starting to think about my baby turning one at the end of this month! My maternity leave is officially over the first week of October, so I am working two days a weeks at my job, and Chris will stay home those two days with Josiah. I think it will feel very busy for us to maintain these hours, but definitely worth the outcome!

I'll give you another update sometime...but probably not until after we are done vacation!

A New Face!

Meet Wesley...my newest little nephew! He was born on August 20, and weighed 8lbs. 14 oz., and he is doing wonderfully! Chris, Josiah and I went to Halifax a couple of weekends ago to meet him. I wish he lived closer!! He is so perfect. I love his nose! Here are some pics of our visit:

Josiah was not as pleased with Wesley as he will be some day.
Let's just say...
he was a little bit jealous!

We are finally retiring our 'old-man' Impala. We got it to haul all of our stuff back and forth from Manitoba over four years ago. It's been great, but lately, we have been hearing more about what needs to be repaired from our mechanic. So we thought it was time for this...

Chris is especially thrilled. I like it too. When he calls from work and asks how his 'baby' is doing, I know which one of the three of us he means! He wasn't pleased with this picture at all, so he may do some guest blogging in the near future and post some more pics...
just humour him please!

Josiah is eleven months old today! In only one month, he will be a year old...hard to believe. Here are a few things he's been up to:
Pulling himself up onto everything in sight. He is a climber for sure! We are just working on the climbing down part...not always graceful, but he does either turn himself around and scoot off,
or go head first like a wheel barrel.

Walking! Well, I should say stepping. In the past couple of weeks, Josiah taken two or three steps at a time without holding on. Any day now, he'll break free!

For now, he uses his walker. He's like a little old man, flinging it around, and pushing stuff out of his way. He even mutters sometimes as he walks.

Josiah has been definitely starting the tantrums, and we can tell he is going to be quite strong-willed. Anyone know of any good books for this that do not involve physical torture? We are on the hunt for some strategies!

Josiah is saying several words in context, so we know that he is quite sure of the purpose. He says 'done', 'down' (these two sound very similar, but the 'down' has a bit of a twang! He also uses 'down' when he means up), 'again', 'amen', 'no', 'duckie', and of course 'mom' and 'dad'. Sometimes I think he is saying other words, but the results are inconclusive so far. He has to prove it to me before it makes it onto his baby calendar!

Things he is enjoying: our first family camping trip (pictures of this will follow soon), his new play group at my gym, mega-blocks (a lot!), mega-block building wall, his push walker, balls, farm set, and books. Oh, and wrestling, peek-a-boo, chase, and tickling...we are now the recipients of tickles. Here is Josiah on the floor with Mr. Dragon, his favorite wrestling opponent.

Our little guy is growing fast. Since he was a new baby, many strangers have mistaken Josiah to be a little (or a lot) older than he is. The worst one was a couple of weeks ago, when someone asked me if he was potty trained. I told them that he wasn't, but that I'd love to have some tips on how to toilet train a ten-month-old baby! I think I'll just enjoy his last month as a real baby, and save the training for a bit later!

My sleeping baby is back! Thankfully, Josiah seems to be back to his normal self. He is napping for about 1-1.5 hours in the morning, and at least 2 hours in the afternoon. He is also going to bed fairly well again. The unfortunate thing is that he is now not taking his bottles as frequently- I think he might be weaning off of them. Sometimes, before his naps, he doesn't take any of his bottle at all! Below is a picture of one of those times. He fell asleep in the car and went straight to his crib for the rest of his nap. The bottle thing makes me sad. I am losing my baby- time for a new one!

Who Knew

Who knew that Little Swimmers could be so handy!
Who knew that Josiah would look so good in pink!

Who knew that Little Swimmers are actually made for boys and girls...really, the outside of the package gave no indication (Well, maybe a small hint. I just didn't see the mermaid. Must have been in my sleep deprived haze a couple of weeks ago!). Good thing we have several pairs of cute, manly swim trunks to hide these babies, 'cause I'm too cheap not to use them all!

Just a Peek
