Weekend Away

We had a visit with my sister and her family on the weekend, so I thought I'd share a few pictures of our time there.

On Saturday, we went downtown and took the ferry. Here are Chris and Josiah by the docks:

We missed the first ferry, so we had a bit of time to wait for the second one:



This was Josiah's first experience on a boat of any kind. He wasn't sure what to think...but he's still talking about it!





Dan and Andrea treated us to a really neat, bustling little cafe with a European flair...very enjoyable! Here is Josiah tickling Wesley:



The boys did really well together for the most part. Of course, the usual sharing toys (and mommy) issues, however, Wesley is the first kid that Josiah has willingly shared his precious Bo with! It is very sweet to watch them together.



Bath time was not quite as enjoyable for Josiah. He is still saying, "Wesley splashed, mommy."



It is always hard to come home after being with family, and knowing that I won't see them again for a while. Although, I am looking forward to a weekend away with Andrea in December!

This is Josiah enjoying his dinky cars. It is often the first thing he wants to play with each morning. He also likes to listen to a song about a duck. Before his eyes are hardly opened, he quacks. Notice the bad bed-head look!



So because of pictures like above, Josiah had another big haircut this week...



Chris loves the military buzz. I am just happy to not have to cut it for a while again. It is a work in progress. He still has 'scraggles' and uneven parts, but I just trim a little each day. Here's the new 'big boy' look:

Josiah looks a bit unsure in this picture. He definitely does not like sharing his mom and dad; however, he does love his cousin! He calls him "Eeee" and carries his picture around often. Wish we could see "Eeee" more often!

This past weekend, starting early Friday morning, my mom and aunt stayed with Josiah so that Chris and I could get away. It was kind of an early birthday surprise for him. He had no idea.

He pulled up on Thursday night, and saw my mom's car. He thought I had either gotten him, or that I had had a break-down and needed to call in the troops! Either was quite possible! I knew on Friday that it had been too long since my last break from kids. I think I slept most of Friday away.

People keep asking what we did, and although there were some fun things planned, I think we wanted to feel bored/rested/not rushed/etc. We've often talked about that bored feeling before kids. Not that we couldn't find lots to fill it most of the time, but every once in a while we'd find ourselves restless. I had a bit of that feeling later on Saturday. It was the first time in 16 months!

So we did things that we never make time for...watched television (way too much of the Olympics), rented movies, read, napped, slept in, and Chris went skiing. I actually even felt rested during my work day today.

I did miss Josiah like crazy, and it was great to see him again when we got back last night. I have a feeling based on his behavior today that he was a very loved boy on the weekend!
